HISTORY AND FACTS: Why I should study in this college?
Founded in 1769, Dartmouth College is a private member university of the Ivy League. This is a synonymous for academic quality in the US and has eight universities in the North-East, such as Harvard and Princeton. Member universities are the meaning of seniority, tradition and elective admission.
Dartmouth, which is consistently ranked among the largest and best academic institutions in the world, focuses on specialization and udergraduation education. Also the college houses three graduate schools, that are Geisel School of Medicine, Thayer School of Engineering, and Tuck School of Business. Another interesting factor is the fact that the college adopts a quarterly system, with assessment in three periods and not two, as usual. It is also possible to customize the course and the subjects contained in it and there is the opportunity to exchange and carry out the discipline and course chosen outside the headquarters. The student only needs to be present at the headquarters in the first and last year of graduation, making it a very flexible faculty.
Another positive point of the university is the high acceptance of foreign students, with around 900 international students from 57 different countries on its campus. This Ivy League college has the smallest number of students, but it is increasingly attracting and admitting Brazilian students.
ABOUT THE MEDICINE COURSE:
Medicine at Dartmouth is only available for Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees, better known as doctorate. Doctor of Philosophy, the famous Ph.D, along with Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science (MS) degrees. The college has an exclusive school for the medicine course: Geisel School of Medicine, the fourth school of medicine in the entire United States, founded in 1797.
The Doctor of Medicine degree curriculum spans four years, combining required courses with elective courses. The PhD is available in six fields offered by basic science departments: pharmacology and toxicology; molecular and cell biology; immunology; molecular pathogenesis; experimental systems biology and molecular medicine.
In the doctorate the first and second years focus on the theoretical part, learning human anatomy, clinical studies and pathophysiology. In the third and fourth years, there is a greater focus on the practical part. In the third year, you must participate in six eight-week sessions in medical offices with medical institutions in the area, covering outpatient clinics and hospitals. The final year is spent on additional internships. The M.D. program is also designed to build a good person by teaching "interpersonal and communication skills", "professionalism" and other practical skills for a medical career.

CURIOSITIES:
The geisel medical school is the fourth oldest medical school in the United States, and was founded in 1797 by a New England physician Nathan Smith, and grew steadily throughout the 19th century.
This college presents major milestones in terms of medical care and research, some of which are the first clinical X-ray in 1896, the first intensive care unit in the United States in 1955 and the Brattleboro rat in 1961, which is a strain of bred rats. in the laboratory, researchers at this faculty created the mice for distribution to scientists around the world for use in testing the possible role of vasopressin in any biological function.
Another interesting curiosity is that Geisel and Tuck have a common course, which was created for professionals who want to study hospital administration or administration of health plans. In this way, it allows students to attend both schools at the same time.
