The numbers of recipients of Nobel, Pulitzer and Turing prizes give a clue to the reasons behind the university's good reputation. More than 150 Nobel laureates have attended Harvard, a number greater than at any other institution in the world. So far, there are also 48 Pulitzer winners (for Journalism and Literature), 14 Turing (known as “Nobel of Computing”) and 18 winners of the Fields Medal, the most outstanding award in Mathematics.

In all, the American institution has more than 371,000 graduate students. And among them, eight presidents of the United States — such as John Kennedy, George W. Bush and Barack Obama. In addition, important intellectuals, scientists, political leaders and celebrities were trained there.

Of the total number of students who have already graduated from Harvard, around 59,000 are foreigners, coming from more than 200 countries. Currently, the university reports having around 5,000 international students from 142 countries. and about 1.2 thousand of them are in graduation. That is, about 22% of Harvard students came from another country.

Another point that draws attention is the educational institution's endowment, which also takes the title of largest among all universities in the world. Altogether, there are about 37 billion dollars commanded by Harvard, a reserve that allows generous investments in research, projects and funding for students who cannot pay for their studies.

Among the Brazilians who attended the institution is Jorge Paulo Lemann, one of the greatest businessmen in Brazil.

It is no wonder that Harvard has maintained its reputation as an institution of excellence for nearly two centuries.

In the Times Higher Education ranking, she is in 3rd place;

In the QS World University Rankings, she is in 5th place;

And according to the most recent Academic Rankings of World Universities, it appears in 1st position.

Willing to attract talent to its classrooms, the institution employs a need-blind policy. In other words, during the selection process, the candidates' income is not taken into account. Thus, the best ones are accepted, whether or not they pay for the studies. For those who cannot, the university offers scholarships that can reach 100%.

Letter of Acceptance to Study at Harvard

Letter of Acceptance to Study at Harvard

Admissions to Harvard follow the model of US schools, with the so-called “application“. First, candidates must submit standardized test scores such as the ACT and SAT, as well as English proficiency exams such as the TOEFL. Essays, texts that introduce the student to the admissions committee, are also requested.

we chose engineering because maybe it's what we want to study in the future.

Until the 18th century there was not a very clear distinction between the professions of Civil Engineer and that of Architect. Sometimes, they are different expressions to refer to the same professional.

In the same century, the term "Civil Engineering" began to be used to distinguish engineering work that was not carried out for military purposes, that is, carried out by civilians. The first civil engineer was John Smeaton, responsible for building the Eddystone lighthouse.

In Brazil: Brazil is going through a serious economic crisis. The market for the professional trained in engineering remains with good alternatives, but expectations are low

in addition to an excellent academic performance, the candidate also needs to find a way to demonstrate in his essay, letters of recommendation and interviews what sets him apart and makes him interesting. And, of course, it is also necessary to show “a very great desire and passion for their areas

O processo seletivo de Harvard é semelhante ao sistema aqui do Brasil. O que difere e que alguns alunos acabam se surpreendendo é a realização de testes padronizados como o SAT e ACT. Além disso, são exigidos alguns documentos e mais testes como:

English language proficiency test (TOEFL and IELTS); Letter of recommendation from a renowned institution here in Brazil; Academic curriculum analysis typically requires excellence; Essays; Personal writing to show the student's potential. A way to convince the University that you are eligible to study there. Precisely because of so many requirements, few students get a place at the University that is rigorous in terms of selection. According to surveys, about 6% of all applicants get a seat at Harvard.

Before returning to Brazil, it is important that you authenticate your diploma with the foreign state where you studied. This process basically involves asking the country's government to see your diploma and issue an opinion guaranteeing that it is, in fact, authentic. Thus, when the document arrives here in Brazil, the government here know that it is true.

Since August 2016, Brazil has applied the Hague Apostille Convention to streamline and simplify the legalization of documents among the 112 countries that signed this treaty, allowing the recognition of Brazilian documents abroad and foreign documents in Brazil.

This basically means that the responsible agency in the country you are in will charge you to stick a piece of paper on the back of your documents saying they are true and recognised. With this document in hand, you can now go to Brazil and no longer need to go through the Brazilian consulate to validate your documents.
